271 Grey Street, South Bank, Brisbane, QLD
A delicate transformation of the Heritage Listed 1988 World Expo site known as “Collin’s Place” was restored into a restaurant and bar.
Collins Place, a timber house built in 1889 was the sole surviving house in what was one of South Brisbane's earliest residential streets.
The Restoration Process
Collins Place, a heritage-listed 1889 brick building in South Bank, was carefully lifted nine metres into the air to preserve it during the Southpoint development. Weighing 330 tonnes, the structure was jacked up millimetre by millimetre using computer-controlled lifts and supported by temporary concrete columns and steel trusses. New foundations were installed beneath it, allowing the building to remain as a striking feature of the site. The restoration maintained the building’s historic integrity, with minimal internal changes, and it is now intended for retail or dining use.
