Originally the site of the Light Street Bus Depot, the area was a neglected mix of industrial remnants until its reinvention began in 2000. The Brisbane City Council, in collaboration with the Urban Renewal Taskforce, cleared the 1.9-hectare site and presented it for redevelopment, with the vision of creating a vibrant, cosmopolitan centre.

The Emporium Precinct, positioned strategically on the bustling arteries of Wickham and Ann Streets, was conceived to embody the essence of a European village with a contemporary twist. The Anthony John Group's vision eschewed conventional retail models, opting instead for a unique blend of boutique retailers, luxury residences, boutique hotel accommodation and office space.
